Facet - A
small plane surface on a bone at the site where it unites with
another bone.
Facetectomy - Excision
of a facet.
Failed back syndrome - This condition refers to patients who have undergone
one or more surgical procedures and continue to experience pain.
Some common diagnoses included in this condition are recurring
disc herniation, epidural scarring or an injured nerve root.

Fascia - Fibrous
tissue enclosing muscle.

Foramen - Natural
opening or passage into or through a bone.
Foraminectomy - Removal
of some overlying bone to enlarge the foramen for the relief
of nerve root compression.
Force - Any
action that tends to change the state of rest or of motion of
a body to which it is applied. The unit of measure for the magnitude
of force is Newton (poundforce).
French scale - A
unit of measure used in to describe the diameter of needles and
catheters. Each French unit is roughly equivalent to 0.33 mm
in diameter, for example, 18 French (18F) indicates a diameter
of 6 mm.
Fusion - Elimination
of motion from a joint by removing the articular cartilage from
the joint surface or by adding bone graft to a decorticated bone
surface.
