Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) - A medical test used to produce images of the interior
of the body. MRI uses strong magnetic fields and low-energy radio
waves to create the resulting images.
Major curve - Term
used to designate the larger (est), usually structural curve.
Malunion - Incomplete
or faulty union as of fragments of a fractured bone.
Manipulate - To
treat or operate with the hands or by mechanical means especially

Median sternotomy - The traditional incision used for
CABG surgery, located at the center of the chest (from the belly
button to to just under the chin).
Meninges - Any
of the three membranes that envelop and protect the brain and
spinal cord.
Meningitis - Infection
of inflammation of the meninges.
Meningocele - The
meninges, or protecting covering around the spinal cord, has
pushed out through the opening in the vertebrae in a sac called
the "meningocele". the spinal cord remains intact.
This form can be repaired with little or no damage to the nerve
pathways.
Minimally invasive surgery - A type of surgery involving small incision(s).
It is usually performed with the aid of endoscopic visualization.
Minor curve - Term
used to refer to the smaller (est) curve(s).
Modulus of elasticity - The stiffness of a material.
Motion segment - Two
vertebrae, the intervertebral disc and all the connecting ligaments
are included in the motion segment.
MRI - See
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Myelogram - X-ray
of the spinal cord after contrast material has been injected
in the surrounding cerebrospinal fluid spaces.
Myelomeningocele - Most severe form of Spina Bifida in which a portion
of the spinal cord itself protrudes through the back. In some
cases, sacs are covered with skin, in others, tissues and nerves
are exposed.
Myelopathy - Any
functional or pathological disturbance or change in the spinal
cord.
Myopathic scoliosis - Scoliosis due to a muscular disorder.
Myopathy - Disease
of a muscle.
