Neural arch - Also
called the vertebral arch, this is the bony arch of the posterior
aspect of a vertebra surrounding the spinal cord.
Neuralgia - Pain
extending along the entire course of one or more nerves.
Neurectomy - Excision
of a part of a nerve.
Neuritis - Inflammation
of a nerve. It may also denote inflammatory nerve lesions of
the peripheral nervous system.
Neurofibromatosis - Genetic disease affecting the skin and nervous
system. It can be hereditary in half of the cases and a spontaneous
mutation in the other half. One of the possible complications
of this disease is scoliosis.
Neuromuscular scoliosis - a form of scoliosis caused by a neurological disorder
of the central nervous system or muscle.
Neuropathy - Functional
disturbance or pathological change in the peripheral nervous
system.
Neurostimulation - Neurostimulation (including spinal cord stimulation
and peripheral nerve stimulation) uses a small neurostimulation
system that is surgically placed under the skin to send mild
electrical impulses to the spinal cord or a specific nerve(s)
that's causing pain. The electrical impulses are delivered through
a lead (a special medical wire) that is also surgically placed.
These electrical impulses block the signal of pain from reaching
the brain.
Neurostimulator - A
neurostimulator is either an IPG (See Implantable pulse generator
) or is a small radio frequency system. Both of these systems
are surgerical placed under the skin to send mild electrical
impulses to the spinal cord or to the specific nerve that is
causing pain. The electrical impulses are delivered through a
lead (a special medical wire) that is also surgically placed.
These electrical impulses block the signal of pain from reaching
the brain.
Neurosurgery - Surgery
of the nervous system that treats disorders of the brain, spinal
cord and peripheral nerve.
Nonstructural curve - description of a spinal
curvature or scoliosis that does not have fixed residual deformity.
Nucleus pulposus - The semi-gelatinous tissue in the center of an
intervertebral disc. This tissue is surrounded by the annulus
fibrosis.
