Tension - A
normal force that tends to elongate the fibers of a material.
The unit of measure is Newton (pound force).
Thoracic - Region
of the spine that is located between the cervical and lumbar
spine.
Thoracic curvature - any spinal curvature in which the apex of the curve
is between the second and eleventh thoracic vertebrae.
Thoracic scoliosis - Scoliosis that has its apex between the T2 vertebral
body through the T11-T12 disc.
Thoracic vertebra - Any of the twelve vertebrae dorsal to the thoracic
region and characterized by articulation with the ribs.
Thoracogenic scoliosis - Spinal curvature attributable to disease or operative
trauma in or on the thoracic cage.
Thoracolumbar curve - any curvature that has its apex at the twelfth
thoracic or first lumbar vertebra.
Thoracolumbar scoliosis - Scoliosis with its apex at T12- L1 or the intervening
T12-L1 disc.
Thoracolumbosacral orthosis - (TLSO) a type of brace incorporating the thoracic
and lumbar spine.
Thoracotomy - An
operation in which the thorax (chest) is open.
Torsion - Type
of load that is applied by a couple of forces (parallel and directed
opposite to each other) about the long axis of a structure.
Torticollis - Abnormal
fixed twisting of the neck.
Traction - Pulling
force exerted on a skeletal structure by means of a special device
or apparatus.
Transversospinalis - Muscles that act as rotators of the spinal column
and run from the transverse process of one vertebra to the spinous
process of the vertebrae above or may span 3 to 4 vertebrae.
